Paralympian Katie-George Dunlevy chooses Fountain Therapies to assist in her Olympic preparation.
On a beautiful September afternoon in 2020, we had a visit to Fountain Therapies of World Champion, Gold & Silver medallist Katie-George Dunlevy. We are delighted to be able to announce that she has chosen our Holistic & Wellness Centre to help support her in preparation for the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021. Many of you will recall that the Olympics and Paralympics have been delayed due to the Covid Pandemic.
Ms Dunlevy’s sport is Tandem Cycling – Track & Road. Her partner is Eve McCrystal and they compete for Ireland. The pair have won many World Titles over the years and the Tokyo Paralympics will be Katie-George’s 3rd time competing at the Games. London 2012, Rio 2016, and Tokyo 2021.
Katie-George began her incredible sporting journey in the field of athletics where she won a bronze medal aged just seventeen. Swimming followed, and then rowing in which she competed for seven years, and as a member of the GB adaptive rowing squad became World Champion for Great Britain in 2004 and 2005. In 2011 she was invited by Cycling Ireland to take up cycling. At first she wasn’t sure, telling the Crawley Observer in September 2019, ‘I didn’t even realise tandem racing was an elite sport or that there were world championships and Paralympic events so I kind of just gave it a go’. It didn’t take her long to start to enjoy her new sport, telling Cycling Ireland I just loved the feel of it. I loved the freedom on the bike and the feel of speed. I fell in love with it straight away’.
We were delighted to have been given the opportunity to hold both the Paralympic Gold & Silver medals from the Rio 2016 Games and enjoyed listening to her story behind achieving these incredible medals. The Directors and Therapists of Fountain Therapies would like to thank Ms Dunlevy for this opportunity, and to wish her and Eve McCrystal all the very best of luck in their training schedules in preparation for their upcoming events.
