Sports Therapy is concerned with injury prevention, injury assessment and the rehabilitation of patients back to full functional fitness in a safe, effective and efficient manner. When treating injuries, the main focus is to get them back to normal function, in as little time as possible. The main stages of approach include a detailed history of your injury and the effects it is having on your daily life. This will be followed by appropriate orthopaedic and neurological testing. Following a diagnosis being formed and discussed with you, a treatment and rehabilitation plan will be made for you. The injury will be re-assessed at every appointment to ensure your recovery is progressing optimally with the correct suited treatment.
Sports therapy is a combination of deep and soft tissue massage, stretching, mobilisation and electrotherapy, to improve the range of joint movement and general joint function. The session will also include home advice including stretches and exercises, and advice on methods of pain relief, as well as taking steps within the stages of rehabilitation, to regain full function.
We use the Kinesio Taping® technique together with Kinesio Tex tape (this was developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase in Japan more than 25 yrs ago) and have completed the KT1 and KT2 training courses. Sports taping can be used to provide muscle and joint support whilst helping injured tissue to heal. It can help with the reduction of inflammation, help reduce muscle fatigue by relaxing overused muscles or facilitating underused muscles. The tape used is latex free, allows the skin to breathe, allows range of motion and can be worn for several days.
